Abstract: | Background: The incidence of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is rising in young patients. The literature showed that patients younger than 40 years have higher risk for recurrence and death compared with older patients. This study evaluated the association between quantitative analysis of CD57+ cells with OSCC in the under-40-year old patients and patients older than 40 years of age. Methods: Were examined 45 patients with OSCC and the quantitative analysis of CD57+ cells were evaluated according to groups of age. Clinical parameters (TNM and locoregional metastasis), habits were analyzed regarding aged of patients. Results: Of the patients with OSCC, 64.4% were male, 68.9% were over age of 40 years and median of age was 53.6 years. The tongue was the major site involved (91.1 %). Most of youngers patients has no habits (p=0.005) and showed early clinical stage. Analysis of CD57+ not showed statistic significance between age of patients. Conclusions: Our results suggest that infiltration of CD57+ inflammatory cells in the peritumoral stroma of OSCC is not influenced by patient. |
